Presentation Details
In this seminar, we reported on a research theme that focuses on mechanisms regarding the provision of medical data owned by patients and medical institutions. In recent years, the rapid development of the field of artificial intelligence, represented by machine learning, has greatly expanded into the life science field, including medicine, with the possibility of making significant contributions to the early detection of diseases, support for diagnosis, and development of new drugs. Naturally, the development of such research requires a large amount of training data. However, for various reasons, it is often difficult for patients and medical institutions to voluntarily provide data, becoming an obstacle to the development of research combining the fields of artificial intelligence and life sciences. Against this background, the Nishino Laboratory is conducting research on the design of incentive mechanisms that enable voluntary data provision. This research is being conducted in collaboration with the Life Intelligence Consortium (LINC) of Japan, which aims to develop applications of AI, Big Data, etc., for the life science field and their social implementation. In this seminar, we reported on the research results obtained so far in this project and invited Dr. Ito and Dr. Fukagawa from the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation and Nutrition, and Dr. Sumikura from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies as invited speakers. We discussed the mechanism of medical data provision from various perspectives.
