Regional mobility is currently undergoing a major transformation amid population decline, an aging population, and a serious shortage of drivers. At the same time, new mobility services such as on-demand transportation and shared mobility are becoming increasingly widespread. Against this backdrop, an important challenge is how to design sustainable mobility services while making effective use of limited transportation resources.
In this seminar, we will introduce research conducted by the Nishino Laboratory on mobility services and invite an expert with extensive practical experience to present an initiative involving on-demand mobility services in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture.
Drawing on perspectives from both research and practice, we will discuss how the concepts of mechanism design can be applied to the design and implementation of mobility services.
